Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Quezada.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Raquel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a mother of a child with disabilities. I am attending the LEND program at Boston Children’s Hospital, I have Experienced in Communications, Radio and TV.
I decided to combine all my experiences and of course the most important one as a Mother to create a Radio talk show.
I believe there is a lot of needs to inform parents and relatives to help and educate them about the concerns and needs of a disabled member.
With all my Knowledge as a Mother of a disable Child and with the education I have received on different types of disabilities and situations on how to deal with it, is what motivated me to have my own Radio Show to better help others.
My Mission is to Educate, Inform and Share Knowledge on what is out there for people with especial needs and also where others Families can come and share their experiences and how these members are affected by it.
The most important of all is to be available and be the platform to help others that don’t know where to start. My main goal is to reach out to our fellow people the Latinos Community that feels suppressed and intimidated by the barrier of the language and afraid to reach out for help or assistance and most of the time are even unaware of all the help they can get, and to let them know that they are not alone on this that there’s a lot of resources that they can benefit by.
In the Radio Show we talk all topics that can helps the community, We bring different Organizations, Public and Private businesses and companies to share information about different programs also to share any products or technology that can benefit people with special needs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not all, My one son with disabilities he the one take me where I’m today, I decided to be his advocacy and his protector in school and everywhere the his go and making sure to get better futures for him I diced to go to school and different s training, having already my on barriers, my language that not stopping to for learn, because I understand the knowledge only knowledge will take me far, and by doing that, today I can say the knowledge is my power.
Please tell us about Radio show Changing the world of special needs.
My Radio talk show is about people. With disability, I’m the only one in Massachusetts as Radio Show for people with disability in Spanish.
My focus is to bring information to people and family member with disability. The radio show is the platforms for resources, educated, advocates, and bring information for the Latino community. And to let them know that they are not along.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing!!!! Who I become to be today is thanks to my son and the experienced that we together have gone through life.
I found my mission and my passion to help other in the radio show, and it also remind me everyday that there is a lot mothers out there listening to the radio show, the have similar situation just the one I have as mother with child with disabilities.
