Today we’d like to introduce you to Floramo’s restaurant.
Kerri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Floramo’s Restaurant was founded in 1985 by Thomas “Tommy” Floramo and his wife Patricia “Pat” Floramo.
Tommy had owned two other restaurants previously to owning and operating Floramo’s with his wife, daughters, and son.
We are a real family business, not a corporate chain. Since opening its doors, Floramo’s has become a legend, known for its incredible BBQ and authentic, homemade Italian dishes. While Chelsea has gone through many changes, we are one thing that’s remained the same, while also improving as the years have passed. Our tagline “Where the meat falls off the bone” automatically comes to mind when people hear the name Floramo.
Tommy and Pat operated Floramo’s for close to thirty years, morning, noon and night, before retiring. Their only son, John Floramo, is the owner now and is carrying on the traditions and reputation of his parents. We’ve been featured on Phantom Gourmet, TV Diner with Billy Costa, on Fox 25’s Zip Trip to Chelsea, on WAAF radio on the Matty and Nick Show and on RadioBDC with Julie Kramer and Henry Santoro.
We are truly blessed in the fact that we have what we consider the most loyal following around. We strive to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere and many people consider us family, especially our staff. We are a proud local business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No business is ever smooth, especially the restaurant business. It’s difficult to take vacations or have our entire family together at once, but when we do we treasure it. But hard work is rewarded!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Floramo’s Restaurant – what should we know?
We specialize in a very unique BBQ menu. Our marinades and sauces are only available at Floramo’s and quite honestly, we are very proud of our recipes. Tommy created everything we do. We are mostly known for our steak tips and baby back ribs. We are extremely proud of the reviews we receive on our BBQ on Yelp, Google+, and Facebook.
Longtime radio personality Bill Marlowe would always talk about us on his radio show and always say, “Floramo’s… where the meat falls off the bone”. This slogan has followed us for over 35 years and people still say it!!! We are set apart from other establishments because of the neighborhood, family feeling you get at Floramo’s. That’s hard to find these days.
Our daytime guests are mostly hard-working locals from the area. We get many locals in the evening but we hear of people traveling from NH, North of Boston, the Southshore and beyond to come to see us and enjoy an evening out.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our supporters? OUR CUSTOMERS!!!! Hands down! Aside from that, since John Floramo has taken over he still values his parent’s input and advice. When you come from a large Italian family you always listen to your Mom and Dad.

Wow! What a great write up for a great restaurant !they deserve every compliment they get, especially Tommy and Pat, I worked for them for many years, I also watched them both working day and night to make this restaurant a great success,I now live in Texas, but, every time I get home Floramos is first on my list. I go as much as possible because there are so many dishes thatI want, shrimp scampi is just one. I also get to see pat, Tommy, John,Theresa and as many as the Floramo family as I can. Love to all the Floramos from your old friend and employee. Moe wish I was there now, I’m hungry!
